It is the oldest and most important part of the castle, built by Walter de Lacy, a Norman nobleman, in the 11th Century. 2. It’s shaped like an elliptical quadrant, following the shape of the rocky promontory on which the Castle is positioned. 3. The surrounding curtain wall is almost 6 feet thick and retains much of its original masonry. 4. Within the Inner Bailey lies the Great Tower, the Judges Lodgings, The
